Eastbourne GP Specialist Training
Programme Directors

Dr Mary-Rose Shears
Mary-Rose has been a Programme Director since 2005. She enjoys her role as facilitator and teacher to the GPRs. She is also a half-time partner and a trainer at Seaford Health Centre. She is currently working as Interim Patch Associate Dean for the KSS Deanery, so isn't active as Programme Director

Dr Andrew Stewart
Andrew has been a GP trainer since August 2003. He comes from a practice with a strong heritage in training – the Lighthouse Medical Practice has had three partners over the years who have been programme directors and six partners who have been GP trainers.
Other interests in medicine include palliative medicine and dermatology and practice management but most of all he just loves standard general practice!
Away from medicine, Andrew is a keen member of his church and has varied other interests centred around his family – not least windsurfing in the summer and skiing through the winter and splashing in muddy puddles whenever he can find one!

Dr Raya Al-Jawaheri
Raya finished the Eastbourne GP Scheme in 2005 and is a partner at the Grove Road Surgery. Since Summer 2008 she has been CES (Community Education Supervisor) for the FY2 doctors in Eastbourne. She was appointed Programme Director in November 2007. Mary-Rose and Andrew are keen for her to become a trainer, but haven't landed this on her yet!! Raya is also PD for Hastings covering maternity leave.
Raya's husband is CES for Hastings!
Dr Heinrich van Wyk
Heinrich has joined us as Interim Programme Director in Mary-Rose's absence. Like Raya, Heinrich trained as a GP in Eastbourne, joining his practice in Stone Cross in 2007.
Becky Couch
Becky in the lynchpin who holds the course together – if you’re ill she wants to know, actually if you’ve got any reason for not attending the day release course, she’ll want to know!! She does all the administrative work, and believe us there’s a lot of it!
Janet Botting
Janet is the assistant manager of medical personnel at the Eastbourne DGH. She helps ensure the jobs are available for the hospital part of our schemes. Thanks Janet!!
