Eastbourne GP Specialist Training
Half day release course
Its Purpose?
If you go into the postgraduate centre on Thursday afternoons during term-time, you will find US there! The Half Day Release Course (DRC) is an integral part of our scheme. We encourage all trainees based in hospital (and expect all in General Practice) to attend each week for this protected teaching session.
The sessions cover a very broad spectrum, drawing on the GP curriculum for inspiration – the timetables are designed by the Programme Directors who couldn’t and wouldn’t want to do it without maximal input from the trainees. Outside speakers, local GPs and Consultants and of course the wide knowledge base of our own registrars is exploited to make this a vibrant interactive afternoon.
The informal parts of the afternoon – the ad hoc discussions – allow specific issues encountered to be raised. Not surprisingly, the RCGP assessments are discussed frequently. We consider peer support an important part of the scheme – and many friendships are made on the DRC.
On occasion we use other venues - a local Practice, or St Wilfrid's Hospice are examples from the last year. Twice a term we hold a joint meeting with our friends on the Hastings scheme.
