Eastbourne GP Specialist Training

Why choose Eastbourne GPVTS

Eastbourne boasts a history of over 30 years of first class training of general practitioners. We have the experience and enthusiasm needed to encourage learning and preparation for the enjoyable challenges of General Practice of the future.

A choice of 11 three year schemes – consisting of six hospital posts and one year in general practice. The six hospital posts will include: accident and emergency, general medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and psychiatry -- both general and elderly. Orthopaedics and Elderly psychiatry are two new innovative posts to join the scheme. We have 4 ITP (integrated training posts) which are GP posts with 4 sessions per week in a hospital post - Dermatology, ENT, Ophthalmology and GU Medicine

10 enthusiastic trainers who meet regularly to progress their own development plans.

Half – day release programme tailored to meet the learners’ needs after discussion – this is for those in general practice. We are developing the support for those in hospital jobs as, while the HDR is no longer obligatory for hospital posts (though it is encouraged), everyone on the scheme values the peer support

Excellent administrative support – thanks, Becky and team!

Happy registrars in their hospital placements – we encourage genuine critical assessment of the learning processes in these posts. Though we have worked in the background for years, we now use the faculty groups and hospital visits and find that we can make a differnece - ask any of us!

Many of our registrars have chosen to remain in the area – and our GPs look highly upon those trained in Eastbourne.
