Eastbourne GP Specialist Training
About us
In common with other GP training schemes, our training scheme has adapted significantly over the last 3 years. We have three new Programme Directors, two new trainers and an increase in the number of rotations that we offer to applicants: in 2010 we will be offering 11 rotations. Of course all hospital posts are on a four-month rotation. The rotations include hospital jobs selected from: accident and emergency, general medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and psychiatry -- both general and elderly.
Eastbourne has embraced the ITPs (Integrated Training Posts), starting with two (Ophthalmology and ENT) in 2008. In 2009, we extended the range to include Dermatology and GU Medicine.
Our main aims remain the provision of a package of educational and personal support to enable our scheme members to develop into competent and confident GPs.
Our training practices are spread wide geographically and varied. We have practices in Eastbourne, of course, and Seaford and Uckfield.
We have had a new PCT formed from a merger of two, including our previous one. We hope to continue our close relationship with the PCT.
Eastbourne District General Hospital is part of the same trust as the Conquest Hospital in Hastings: therefore some of the hospital posts may be split sites. At time of writing this update, decisions are a hot on the political agenda as to what services will be covered by which sites. The scheme in the three years may be very different from the scheme now. We work closely with the Hastings GP Specialist Training Scheme.
